Community Update: NGAAMBA, Kenya…

Heading into the summer and with many of you traveling to our 410 Bridge Communities in Kenya, we would love to share the most recent updates to the communities so that you are aware of what changes and growth has happened this year so far…

The following is information covered with our Ngaamba Community church partners. We hope that all of you who have visited Ngaamba will be encouraged at the growth and health in this community! (sorry there aren’t any pictures!)

PROJECTS;

  • CLINIC- GROUNDBREAKING WAS HELD ON MARCH 14, 2012.  THE FOUNDATION IS NOW COMPLETED AND WORK ON THE SLAB AND WALLS WILL BE BEGINNING VERY SOON.  ANOTHER BUILDING ON THE PROPERTY IS BEING CONVERTED TO A MATERNITY WING.  WE HOPE FOR AN OPENING IN THE FALL.  WE WILL HAVE MEDSHARE LOAD AND SHIP A CONTAINER OF SUPPLIES IN TIME FOR THE OPENING.
  • A BOREHOLE HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN NGAAMBA WEST AND IT COMES AT A GOOD TIME AS ANOTHER AREA BOREHOLE NOT DONE BY 410 BRIDGE IS OUT OF COMMISSION DUE TO SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.  THIS HAD LEFT THE COMMUNITY VERY SHORT ON WATER.
  • A MEDICAL TEAM VISITED NGAAMBA IN EARLY MARCH AND WAS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED BY THE COMMUNITY
  • THE 252 REJOICE PROJECT IS RUNNING WELL AND SERVING THE KIDS IN THE AREA BY TEACHING BIBLICAL VIRTUES IN THE SCHOOLS.
  • 50 NEW DESKS WERE BUILT WITH FUNDS FROM BPFC.  GRADE 8 NOW SITS TWO TO A DESK INSTEAD OF 4 TO A DESK
  • BPFC ALSO IS FUNDING 1 TEACHER, 2 EXAMS PER TERM AND WEEKEND TUTORING FOR CLASSES 6,7, AND 8.
  • 100 DESKS ARE BEING FUNDED FOR NZEVENI PRIMARY BY A DONOR AND WILL BE COMPLETED SOON.
  • WE WILL BE FUNDING AND DISTRIBUTING TEXTBOOKS TO SEVERAL SCHOOLS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
  • WE HAVE FUNDING FOR APPROX. 8 GREENHOUSES AT THE SCHOOLS AND ARE CURRENTLY STUDING THE WORKABILITY OF THE GREENHOUSES IN ANOTHER COMMUNITY AND ONCE THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT WILL BEGIN THE GREENHOUSES IN NGAAMBA IN HOPES OF HELPING THE SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMS TO BECOME SELF SUSTAINABLE.

FUTURE PROJECTS;

  • BIBLES FOR EACH HOUSEHOLD IN NGAAMBA – APPROX 5000 BIBLES
  • ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS AT SEVERAL SCHOOLS
  • PASTOR TRAINING- THE 410 BRIDGE HAS HIRED A KENYAN SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT STAFF WHO WILL WORK WITH PASTORS IN OUR COMMUNITIES ON A REGULAR BASIS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
  • THERE IS A CONTINUAL NEED FOR CLEAN WATER IN NGAAMBA AND WE ARE DOING A MASTER WATER PLAN TO ENCOMPASS THE ENTIRE AREA TO SEE THE BEST WAY FORWARD FOR THE FUTURE TO ENSURE THE CONTINUAL AVAILABILITY OF WATER.

KEY DEVELOPMENTS:

  • EDUCATION- WITH THE WORK IN THE SCHOOLS BY BPFC AND TEAMS AND THE AVAILABILITY OF WATER THE SCHOOLS ARE IMPROVING.  THEY WILL NOT CHANGE IN ONE YEAR BUT WILL TAKE TIME.  AN EXAMPLE OF THE IMPROVEMENT SEEN IS IN MWANYANI PRIMARY WHICH RAISED ITS MEAN KCPE RESULTS BY 26 POINTS FROM 2011. THEY ENDED UP 6TH IN THE DISTRICT WHEREAS IN 2011 THEY WERE 13TH. FOR THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD A GIRL SELECTED FOR LORETO GIRLS SCHOOL, A NATIONAL SCHOOL AND 5 OTHERS GOING TO PROVINCIAL SCHOOLS.  THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE CHANGE IN THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION.
  • THE NGAAMBA MEN’S GROUP CONTINUES TO MEET.  THIS GROUP WAS STARTED BY A NorthPoint TEAM AND MEETS TO DISCUSS MATTERS THAT AFFECT THEM AS WELL AS PARTICIPATE IN RAFIKI MAIL.  THE GROUP HAS SELECTED A NAME  “NTHONGOOSYA MITI”. THEY DISCUSS ISSUES LIKE WATER, TREE PLANTING, ADULT LITERACY, INCOME GENERATION AND LEADERSHIP.  TO BE ABLE TO JOIN YOU MUST HAVE A SUCCESSFUL TREE SEEDLING PROJECT.
