A Summer Trip to Ndibai, Kenya

Leading the Kenya Open Team

In July, I had the privilege of leading a Kenya Open team, and I’d love to share some of the experiences that left a lasting impact on me. Our team was a diverse group of 12 people from five U.S. states and Toronto, Canada, with five of us being repeat trip participants. It was a wonderful mix of individuals—some with deep knowledge of 410 Bridge and others who were just beginning to learn about our work.

Visiting Ndibai, Kenya: A Mature Community on the Brink of Graduation

Our destination was Ndibai, Kenya, one of our more mature communities. 410 Bridge began working in Ndibai in 2015, and based on what I witnessed, it’s likely that we’ll be able to graduate this community within the next 2-3 years.

This was my first visit to Ndibai, and it was truly inspiring to see the tangible impact of the programs that have been implemented over the years. From Business Start-Up Training (BST) and Foundations for Farming (F4F) to the Living Seed program, Leadership Development trainings, and school sustainability initiatives, the transformation was evident in every corner of the community.

Meeting Richard: A Story of Transformation

One of the highlights of my trip was meeting Richard. Richard exudes a quiet confidence—think of E. F. Hutton; when he speaks, people listen. After participating in our farming training in 2022, Richard has transformed the way he farms.

When asked what he appreciated most about the training, he listed several things:

  • Strengthened Relationships: He valued the Alpha course, our discipleship component, which has improved his relationships with family and neighbors.
  • Effective Farm Management: He now keeps detailed records to identify which crops are more profitable, helping him manage his farm more effectively.
  • Prioritizing Work: With this knowledge, he prioritizes his work better, leading to greater efficiency.
  • Higher Yields: By adopting farming techniques based on biblical principles, he’s achieving higher yields.

Richard’s farm is impressive, with fruit trees, vegetable gardens, decorative plants, and even rabbits. What’s even more remarkable is that Richard hosts 20 people each month at his farm, training them in these techniques. He also employs local workers and is an active member of a savings group.

A Season of Expansion: Stretching Wide the Tent of Impact

This season, inspired by the words of Isaiah 54:2, we’re embracing what we’re calling our Season of Expansion.
