Did you go the Church last Sunday?… How was it?

I know that’s a tough question to answer.  This is not a blog post about the issues surrounding the church in America.  I am not going to write about our tendency to look at church and church services through the lens of “what it does for us”.

This post is to remind us of how blessed we are to have at our disposal through local churches, the internet, and conferences many of the finest, most educated Bible teachers in the world.  We have more solid Biblical teaching than anyone since those that literally sat at Jesus’ feet.  Most of our pastors have more degrees than a thermometer. They have been trained to teach the word in ways than engage our minds and move our hearts.

It’s pretty incredible!

We work with many communities in Kenya and now in Haiti where pastors who have a real heart for God and desire to equip the body of Christ. They have never sat through a seminary class. They don’t have commentaries, systematic theology books, or conferences on how to make their church “relevant”.  For some of these pastors they learn to preach by turning on the radio and listening to the “Preachers of Prosperity” being piped in to the developing world.  They learn about a “gospel” that is dependent on the generosity of man, and a theology that accounts God’s favor on something other than the work of Jesus on the cross.

Luckily we have the pleasure of working with some incredible Churches in the U.S. with a heart and passion to invest into churches and pastors in 410 Bridge communities.  These churches and teams are making a huge investment into the Kingdom through strengthening the local church in Kenya and Haiti. What an incredible example of using the gifts that God has given us to serve others.

Coming to school on an empty stomach made it difficult to focus, learn, and fully engage in their education.
