After more than a decade in Kiu Community, we have seen how child sponsorship becomes a catalyst for healthier schools, stronger families, and more resilient communities.
Sponsorship does not stand alone. It fuels long-term change.
A Decade of Consistent Presence
From 2012 to 2023, child sponsorship played a critical role in our partnership with Kiu Primary Schools. Over those 11 years, sponsorship support allowed us to walk alongside schools day after day, year after year, responding to real needs as they emerged.
Because enrollment numbers fluctuated over time, exact totals are difficult to calculate. We estimate that nearly 360,000 meals were served to more than 2,000 children during the life of the community partnership.
For many students, this daily meal meant more than nourishment. It meant the ability to concentrate in class, stay in school, and keep learning.
Strengthening Education From the Inside Out
Before newer initiatives like tutoring and formal teacher training were introduced, sponsorship funds helped meet immediate staffing needs.
In Kiu alone, sponsorship support helped fund up to four teachers each year from 2009 through 2023. This ensured classrooms stayed open and student-to-teacher ratios remained manageable.
Over time, this support expanded into broader Quality Improvement Programs designed to strengthen the entire school environment.
These initiatives included:
- Daily feeding programs
- Teacher stipend support
- Textbook distribution
- Exam support
- School supplies and uniforms
- Health and wellness checkups, including deworming and jiggers treatment
- Dignity for Girls distributions
- Discovery Kids Program, our discipleship program in Kenyan schools
- After-school support programs
Together, these efforts addressed both educational and holistic needs, recognizing that a child’s ability to learn is deeply connected to their health, dignity, and spiritual development.
Discipleship That Shapes the Next Generation
Within the schools, the Discovery Kids Program played a key role in discipleship. This program created space for children to learn biblical truths, build character, and grow in confidence and leadership.
While academics matter deeply, we believe lasting transformation happens when children are formed spiritually and emotionally alongside their education.
Investing in Infrastructure That Lasts
Child sponsorship funds also helped build physical spaces that will serve communities for generations.
Over the course of the partnership, four classroom blocks were constructed, each paired with latrine projects. Sponsorship funding also supported a major water project at Ndalani Primary School, bringing reliable access to clean water for students and staff.
In addition to classrooms and water access, sponsorship funds contributed to desk distributions, fencing projects, and sustainability initiatives that improved safety and learning conditions.
Child sponsorship is not a short-term solution. It is a long-term commitment that creates ripple effects across classrooms, families, and entire communities.
