From First Day of School to Forever Changed

For most children, the first day of school means sharpened pencils, new shoes, and a nervous smile. But for a child living in extreme poverty, it can mean something far greater — the start of a journey that transforms their life forever.

Through the 410 Bridge child sponsorship program, children like Mary and Kennedy are taking those first steps — into classrooms, into faith, and into a future they never dreamed possible.

From First Day to Graduation — and Beyond

When Mary first walked into her village classroom in rural Kenya, she carried more than her schoolbooks. She carried dreams — dreams to one day help others as a nurse, to support her family, and to break the cycle of poverty in her community. At home, her family struggled to make ends meet. Paying for school fees, uniforms, and supplies seemed impossible.

Through the 410 Bridge sponsorship program, Mary received consistent support that allowed her to attend school without interruption.

“I remember the first time I got my uniform and supplies,” Mary recalls. “I felt like I could finally belong in the classroom. I felt hope.” Sponsorship didn’t just cover school fees; it provided discipleship through her local church, mentoring from teachers, and encouragement to pursue her dreams

Stories like Mary’s are multiplying.

Former 410 Bridge sponsored children are now teachers, community leaders, and university graduates. Kennedy, for example, grew up in the sponsorship program, completed his education, and pursued university. Today, he serves his community by mentoring the next generation.

Kennedy shares, “I never imagined I would be in university one day. Sponsorship showed me that my dreams were possible — and that God had a plan for me.”

Education Opens the Door to the Gospel

Through sponsorship, children are not only learning math and reading. They’re learning about the hope and salvation found in Jesus Christ — often for the very first time. In classrooms across partner communities, Scripture is read aloud daily, worship songs echo across dirt courtyards, and prayers are lifted before lessons. Many children experience the love of Christ through these moments, and many respond by choosing to follow Him.

Mary reflects on how sponsorship impacted her faith: “I learned about Jesus through my teachers and my church mentors. Knowing Him gave me courage to keep going, even when life was hard.”

Your Gift Can Be Their First Step

When you give, you’re not just sending a child to school. You’re giving them a life transformed by knowledge, opportunity, and the love of Christ.

Give a child their first day of school — and the chance to know Christ.

This school year, be part of the moment that changes everything. Give today and help a 410 Bridge sponsored child take their first step toward a brighter future — in the classroom and in eternity.

Why Our New Kiu Case Study Matters

Seeing real, long-term transformation is the heart of why we do community development. It’s one thing to launch programs or build infrastructure, but it’s entirely another to watch a community continue to grow and thrive on its own after we step back.

That’s why we now have a new Kiu case study — to show what sustainable, community-led development looks like when it really works.
